Events 2010-11

This web page lists all the BCS ISSG events for the forthcoming year, together with Information Security events organised by other BCS Specialist Groups and Regional Branches.  From time to time, the ISSG may endorse other relevant meetings, usually of a non-commercial nature, and always where there is some specific benefit to both the ISSG and its members.  Such events are also listed here.

You can find a comprehensive listing of information security events, conferences and exhibitions at http://www.infosecdiary.com/.

BCS ISSG Events

SOA Security and ISSG 2010 Annual General Meeting

Thursday 16th September 2010.  To be held at IBM Bedfont Lakes, Feltham.

Securing access to information is important to any business.  Security becomes even more critical for implementations structured according to Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) principles, due to the inherent looser coupling of services and applications, and their possible operations across trust boundaries.  To enable a business so that its processes and applications are flexible, you must start by expecting changes – both to process and application logic, as well as to the security policies associated with them.  Merely securing the perimeter is not sufficient for today´s flexible on demand businesses.

IBM is a world leader in innovation, collaboration and global integration, and we are very fortunate to be able to offer a full day of presentations by IBM experts on SOA and cloud security.  This free event hosted by IBM will include the Group's Annual General Meeting.

Further details are available on our next event page.  A booking form will be available shortly.

BCS ISSG Privacy Day

Wednesday 1st December 2010.  To be held at the BCS London Offices, Southampton Street, London.

The privacy day is now a regular fixture in the ISSG's annual programme of events.  Led by Ian Fish, ISSG Committee Member and member of the BCS Information Privacy Expert Panel, this meeting will once again bring you an interesting mix of factual briefings and potentially controversial personal opinion.

BCS ISSG Legal Day

Friday 21st January 2011.  To be held at the Royal Air Force Club, Piccadilly, London.

A regular and very popular fixture in the ISSG calendar, the "Legal Day" will update you on key changes to legislation and policy elating to the IT/IS profession.  Speakers are drawn from a wide range of industry and legislative bodies, and will give us their expert insight on the law and its application in practice.

The event is facilitated by ISSG committee members Charlotte Walker-Osborn, a partner at solicitors Eversheds, and David Alexander, who isn't a lawyer but claims he can sound like one...

Annual Conference - Moving the Goalposts

Thursday and Friday 17th and 18th March 2011.  To be held at Bletchley Park Museum, Bletchley.

Sometimes you have to think outside the box.  Our Annual Conference is the premier event in our annual programme, and this year we will be holding it in the historical location of Bletchley Park.  We hope the example of our early pioneers in information security and information technology will help delegates "move the goalposts" in their own understanding and strategies for information security.  An excellent opportunity to get together and meet other information security professionals in convivial surroundings away from London.  You can find more details on our dedicated Annual Conference page.

Encryption Fron A Business Perspective

Friday 13th May 2011.  To be held at the BCS London Offices, Southampton Street, London.

In the real world, IT professionals do not design their own encryption schemes, they use commercial products, but often with little understanding of what is actually going on underneath the surface.  Based upon feedback from last year's well received encryption day, this event will look at encryption from a truly business perspective.

BCS IRMA Events

Our sister Specialist Group, BCS IRMA (Information Risk Management and Assurance) sometimes organises events that have a significant Information Security content or relevance.  Details of their events, once published, are listed below.  For full details, please see the IRMA forthcoming events web page.

At present, we do not have firm details concerning any future IRMA events with a significant Information Security component.
