The cornerstone of the BCS-ISSG’s existence is the Group’s regular events, which are held approximately every two months. Events are normally in the form of a full day seminar on a specific topic of current interest in the Information Security field. A charge is levied to cover the cost of the venue, lunch and other refreshments, but the cost per delegate is very modest compared with commercial events featuring speakers of similar calibre. An ever popular event is the Group's "Legal Day", which provides delegates with an intensive update on the laws and regulations affecting the management of information. The Annual Conference is the Group's premier event each year, usually held in early spring at a Midlands venue. The format consists of two days of presentations, with a Group dinner on the first evening, followed by overnight accommodation at the conference centre. It provides excellent opportunities for networking, informal discussions and sharing of common experiences. The Annual General Meeting is held during May, usually in conjunction with one of the Group’s regular seminars. Attendance at the AGM is free of charge but restricted to ISSG members. The BCS-ISSG takes pride in its ability to consistently attract leading authorities in the area of Information Security to speak at its conferences. The assembly of such expertise, coupled with the informal nature of these events, provides a unique opportunity for our members to gain valuable first hand knowledge. Details of all forthcoming events are circulated to all members in advance, as well as being published on this web site and featured on the BCS Diary pages of the Computer Weekly and Computing newspapers when possible. Applications for attendance are normally handled on a "first come, first served" basis. ISSG members are sent application forms in advance of others and are given priority in the allocation of available places. The Group publishes a printed magazine every few months, which is sent free of charge to all members. This professionally presented journal features articles and news reports, as well as regular features such as web site reviews.
